It is wrong to use revisionist history to belittle and destroy the reputation of the great explorer, Columbus. It is also wrong to strip the Italian American people of the central figure of their day of pride. You would be condemned if you did so to any other ethnic group. I plea for fairness.

As a proud Italian American I ask you to please reconsider your decision to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples' Day. This would be a slap in the face to all Italian Americans and I beg you to reconsider!

This movement to erase some of the history of my adopted country - the USA - needs to be stopped. I took my oath of citizenship on 2/8/1962, but if had been able to see so much anti-American actions in the future of my adopted country, I would not have done so.

For the past five hundred years we have celebrated Columbus and what this great Italian Explorer contributed to the world. Today lies are being spread as truths and too many people are not taking the time to read and learn the real truth about Columbus and all of his accomplishments.

The lies being tossed around about Cristoforo Colombo are unforgiveable. Please think about what your are doing. If you must take Columbus Day away from the Italian American Community, could you consider renaming it Italian Heritage Day to honor those who came with nothing and made something of themselves.

History cannot be rewritten and Columbus is an integral part of American history and should continue to be recognized for his accomplishments. Honor the indigenous People with their own day.
