As a former rugger at Williams College, I appreciate the value that club rugby confers to student athletes.

Team work is what rugby is all about! A skill that you need in the real world!

After deciding I no longer wanted to play volleyball, I felt lost without a team. Rugby offered the perfect balance of camaraderie and fitness and it is how I met some of my closest friends at Colby. The team not only brought us students together, but also our families who picked up the slack in support from the school.

As a Bowdoin alumna and rugby player, I am deeply saddened to hear of the decision to end rugby at Colby.

They got rid of fraternities 30 years ago. Lots more money and support for those, the case went to court and the school won. A little petition won't save CRFC.

As a player for the University of New England in Biddeford, ME, I could never imagine having the opportunity to play a sport that teaches such great discipline and camaraderie taken away from me. I truly hope that the administration at Colby College rethinks its decision, and keeps the program.

Perhaps it would be beneficial to speak to the medical personal associated with professional rugby teams in order to properly determine health and safety risks instead of simply assuming that such risks exist in rugby.

I am a Franklin Pierce University Rugby Alumni (2012) and I would not be the dedicated and confident person I am today if not for the time I spent on a rugby team. Rugby is a sport that is unmatched by any other team sport I have seen. The team comradely that rugby players experience is priceless. You would also be hard pressed to find another community in this country that is more accepting of people, than a rugby community. It deeply saddens me to hear that students at Colby College may not get the chance to experience these wonderful attributes that come with being on a rugby team.

Bowdoin womens's rugby alum here - no sport is as inclusive, no sport is as comprehensive, and no sport brings different schools together like rugby does. These programs should be growing, not closing. See article in the Portland Press Herald,Nov 21, 2013.

Rugby is an amazing sport and to have it taken away would be an injustice to the players and the school
