Just because a school is smaller than another shouldn't affect how the children are treated from one school to another. It is a shame the kids and parents are going not going to get to experience the same fair treatment and programs as another school.

I hope they can keep Coker creek school. Taking children down that mountain every day is scary!

My child came to me in tears saying she didn't want anyone to close her school. This is why I am fighting so hard for our school. Her and the other 120 kids are important! They are not numbers either are the teachers and faculty. Closing Coker Creek forces 120 kids to go to schools they do not want to go to. 17 people will loose their jobs.

As a longtime member of the Coker Creek community, I play many
different roles. However, I am a mother first and foremost. I am extremely passionate about issues that affect my children and community. I believe a good education is of vital importance for the continued growth of our children and community. I absolutely refuse to stand by and idly watch a group of self-serving individuals try to destroy everything my community has worked so hard to accomplish. The proposed budget cuts will negatively impact our children and community in many ways. I firmly believe our children should be afforded the same opportunities as other students across Monroe County.

Coker Creek School is very important to the children in that area. Yes thi is a small school but the children have more one on one time with the teachers. This makes for better students. please try to keep this school open.

I went to this school from 3rd Grade to 8th Grade. These teachers at Coker Creek Elementary School are great teachers and influences on these young children. If this school gets shut down, not only are you forcing the teachers to quit, but you are also forcing the kids to move to a new place, and have to adapt to new environments. A sudden change of environment can have a negative effect on a child. Trust me, I would know!

My family fought to build this school 50 years ago when the schools on Coker Creek were consolidated. My children have gone through this school along with most of my grandchildren and now my great grand children. People off of this mountain have always put our kids and our school down. I think it is time that someone looked at the facts and realized the kids of productive citizens that have come from this small community school. Did you realize that we have NASA employees, lawyers, teachers, nurses and just plain old good hard working people. My list could go on and on. Are there any other schools in Monroe County that get as many donations or community support as our school?

Looks to me if it were all about money they could cut some Central Office weight from the rolls. Those positions don't contact children and surely don't impact the education level as much as a local elementary school does. This school has always been a star school and part of their success has been the size. Other schools in Georgia for example don't have classes on Mondays but go longer days Tuesday-Friday. This would save money on support, lunches, buses etc while maintaining a footprint in the community. Kids are not going to benefit from the extraordinarily long bus rides to Tellico up and down the mountain every day. It could very well be a safety issue with the remote nature of the area and lack of lights on roads and early morning pick up by buses. I would be furious if I was a parent. Keep it open.

Several of men in this community, including myself, went door to door over 50 years ago getting petitions signed to open Coker Creek school. We made it happen then and we will not just sit back and let them take it away from us now. We need to fight for what is right and that is our kids and their educations. Our kids are as deserving as any other kids in Monroe County.
