It is ironic that a missionary board has pushed out refugee support organizations to build their structures. Sadly what they have done has pushed out several successful refugee help programs that used this site and now have no "home" in tiny Clarkston.

You asked for it, you got it, New Clarkston. Sad to see all the religious tests imposed on this project. Btw, Dekalb County is expanding its sewer systems to accommodate thousands of new potential voters, sorry, residents. Yay, stack&packs!

Stay true to the people of Clarkston. DO NOT sell it off to the highest bidder. Short term profits are worth it for only a few. DO the right thing.

I thought I could trust mayor Terry. He never mentioned this while I spoke to him at legnth about the city’s future. Very disappointing.

Nothing about this evasion from any outside entity was appropriately reviewed and discussed with the citizens. Failure on the church's part and the city leadership. That can only lead to the conclusion that this effort is for outside interests and must only benefit the parties that colluded to withhold this project from the community. Disgraceful and unjust. Not very "Christian" from an organization that claims to be.

I am fully against this the expansion of this entity as both a member of the community and as a Christian. The gated nature of this compound is strictly against the Bible and the teachings of Jesus. As a community member, dismantling the character and community that is already established is a travesty and antithetical to the Clarkson community, which has fostered a small town feel, yet coupled it with an abundance of welcoming and acceptance. To permit this frivolous expansion will only codify Clarkston as a center of a select religious activity, and diminish it's reputation of open arms for all who come here for refuge, peace, and community. This isn't about a church seeking to bring people to God, it's about greed, power, and profit. Jesus spoke to the masses as a carpenter. Welcomed all people with loving arms. He pulled down tables of gold in the synagogues. He didn't speak from behind a fence with private housing and private recreational facilities. Shame on all supportive of this. He didn't destroy communities by breaking them up. If they want to bear witness, then they need to do it in a godly, not greedy, manner. With love and community in their hearts...not with political and financial gain in mind. The Clarkson community does not want this. It's time to listen to the people.

There clearly should have been more transparency and community dialogue before proceeding with such a huge undertaking. I understand that you can’t protest against a single group or entity but it seems like the process wasn’t fair or open. On a personal level, I don’t agree with a mega church missionary group coming into a diverse community, with an alterior motive of proselytizing and increasing numbers for a congregation.

I understand the legal position and completely agree with it. People can do what they want with their land so long as it's legal. However, they can also decide that it is too much trouble, that there is too much local opposition, that the negative publicity is not worth the return. There is a good sized portion of the citizens of Clarkston that do not want this here. The reasons vary but the goal is the same. And there is the VERY disturbing fact that this has been in discussion for almost a year now (at least) and neither our elected officials not the citizens have been informed of this MASSIVE campus that is well on it's way to being built. From what I can tell NONE of the CC or you were even informed about this until the past few months. At least there are no records that show that. It's like it was being kept secret for some reason. Not sure why but it's still early. Eventually we will get to the bottom of all this.

No to church takeover of Clarkston neighborhood

No. People cannot just build and do what they want with champion trees and historic buildings because they have money and a tax exempt status. Just no. Clark’s tom has its own church which are its diverse people and neighborhood.....leave it be!

I am fully opposed to this development.

To be factual, no Public Hearing was held, in violation of State Law, for the issuance of the Conditional Use Permit to renovate the church's gym into a worship center. This was not intentional but it is an important failure. The ONLY reason - public input process is current and ongoing - is that the cat is out of the bag thanks to citizens' efforts in uncovering this large project that the mayor intentionally kept from residents.

Ask the mayor how long he has known about this project and worked with the church on it. Also ask him to defend his decision not to inform residents. Just to be factual, something was approved - the permit to simply renovate the church's gym into a worship center. The mayor knew better than most that this was just a small part of the proposed 8-acre church campus yet never said a word.
