As it stands today, regarding non-licensed church parents day
out programs, the law states that services for children less than school age
can be available no more than two days in each calendar week, for no more than
six hours per day. In the past, DHS has advised churches and church
organizations that they could operate for more than two days each week so long
as no individual child attended more than two days during any given week, hence
separate Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday programs.
Recently, DHS received an opinion from the
Office of the Attorney General to restrict these programs to two days a week,
period, not allowing separate programs to operate within the week. This change
will be effective July 2013.
Therefore, we are asking for your support
to overturn this opinion, in the form of a signature on this petition. We will
be mailing and e-mailing a copy of this petition to the Office of the Attorney
General at the end of December. Therefore, we need your support and signature
by December 20, 2012.
Thank you so much for supporting
non-licensed church programs, and the needs they meet for the children of our
communities.
Leave the churches alone. They know how to run their own programs better than some bureaucrat in an office.
