The efforts being made by the Cape Breton Squash Community have a strong impact on the future of Maritime Squash. Over the past year as we ease out of the pandemic, we've seen them work hard to grow programming and attract participation from across the maritimes. The competition, health benefits and sense of community are all part of the culture squash brings to residents. We expect significant growth in the Maritmes and Cape Breton is vital to that.

This is a short-sighted decision that will destroy existing value. I urge the YMCA decision-makers to make a better choice, and retain the existing squash assets.

I was a member of the YMCA for many years until COVID and enjoyed playing squash Now I am playing squash and pickleball and was going to renew my membership but having second thoughts now if they are going to take out the squash court and use the other court 20 percent of the time for other activities

I started to play squash after a running injury. Belinda and the other rec league players welcomed me into their group and I quickly developed a love for the sport. Although my life circumstances prevent me from playing or being a Y member right now, I look forward to the time my children are a bit older and I can come back to play. Removing one of the courts would impact the squash community in a way that cannot be undone.

These renovations will cause permanent damage to the court's unique infrastructure. The substantial renovations would be very costly to un-do and there would never be sufficient funding to remediate the court in the future. #savecapebretonsquash
