I'm an historian and writer. My latest books (all written in Italian) are: "Augusto. Ritratto di un Impero" (namely: August. Portrait of an Empire); "Costantino. L'Imperatore visionario" (Constantine. The Emperor and his political Visions"); "Le Colonne di Roma". Storia e leggende" (The Columns of Rome. History and Legends). I've recently been in England, I love that country and I highly appreciate this petition and I have signed it.

This Museum is so vital to presenting the identity and rich heritage of the city, it is beyond belief that anyone should consider that it should not continue to do so.

It sounds like a partnership could be the answer. Do save it so I can visit one day.

A disgrace to sacrifice part of our heritage merely to balance the books.

Isn't enough of our ancient, beautiful buildings being destroyed in the name of progress. Stop ruining our country with ultra modern architecture and hold on to what is, and should always be, our history.

Close something else if you must but this has got to remain the jewel that it is within Canterbury's heritage.

Why on Earth would anybody want to close this?

Given the importance of Canterbury as a tourist destination and its historic significance, this looks like municipal philistine short-termism, to save a few pounds. When Huntingdon Council withdrew support from the Cromwell Museum, there was rightly an outcry and the museum was saved, although funded on a different basis. Surely the same could be arrange in Canterbury?

By working with community partners the museum should be able to develop new and informative stories and exhibits to engage the local and visiting public.

To close this historic museum is to diminish the rich history of civilized men & women. We are not living in the Dark Ages!

This Museum - and, equally, the Roman Museum - need promoting and development as important centres for education and tourism

I don't want the Museum to close to the public. It's a wonderful building that should be available to all. And the museum is great. It just needs far better publicity to encourage people to go there. It is a bit off the beaten track, but let residents and tourists know about it.
