TO: AUSTIN CITY COUNCIL:
We, the undersigned residents of Austin, are deeply concerned about the city-wide impact of commercial development along Bull Creek, including the proposed construction of an 11-story hotel at 6315 Spicewood Springs Rd., particularly as it affects water quality and safety. Bull Creek flows through significant portions of the City and supplies water to Austin residents already struggling with water quality issues. Commercial development also threatens the environmentally sensitive Bull Creek Park. The creek regularly floods, closing what is already a narrow two-lane section of Spicewood Springs Road, inhibiting access by emergency vehicles in an area where a drowning recently occurred. Increased development would further endanger public safety as well as water quality.
The City would be better served by utilizing the area for parkland, maintaining the nature preserve of Bull Creek Park and St. Edward’s Park, or for low-density housing or other less intensive development. We therefore urge the Council to decline to annex the property or otherwise provide City utilities for commercial development, and instead preserve the area for all of Austin’s citizens.

I live on Yaupon and I can't imagine having our road as a main thoroughfare for a hotel business- I want to keep it a neighborhood street. There is no other route to take when it rains and floods out Spicewood which is several times a year.
I have lived in Austin since 1976 and St Edwards park and this portion of Spicewood Springs road are 2 of my favorite places to spend my outdoor time-on my bike or with my dog. The idea of building a hotel on this property is an anathema to me.
Please recognize what a mistake it is to think of a hotel near Bull Creek and Spicewood Springs Rd. The road is closed several times a year due to flooding, and a nearby park, St. Edwards, shows how people love access to trails, NOT hotels.
Its really not a suitable place for a hotel. Small road that is too crowded already. Environmentally sensitive. No sewage. Opposite Pre-K country school. Not close to any amenities, shops or restaurants for guests. It does not make any sense.
Remember the Desired Development Zone and the Drinking Water Protection Zone? It's critical to all citizens of Austin that we protect the environmentally sensitive western watersheds so there is clean water for drinking and recreation.

This place is a family treasure for us and our children. Please do not develop it.

The location for this hotel makes no sense. Also, that David Kahn is threatening to double the size of the hotel if the City does approve his sewage connection is a clear indication of his lack of respect for the community and is disingenuous.
