The state officially denied the closure of Brown Derby Road. I am exhausted by this fight but relieved that our primary route remains open for the community. Please keep watching the council meetings to ensure they respect this decision moving forward.

We are petitioning the Illinois Dept. of Transportation stop the closure of Brown Derby Road in Thornton, IL. Your support is requested because the Village Board in Thornton has already voted to shut down this primary route of ingress & egress to please members of the Homewood Village Board and Menard's, Inc. They did so directly against the wishes of a great many of the Thornton community, and now we need IDOT's assistance in resolving the matter. Brown Derby Road cannot close without IDOT approval. The reasons why BDR should remain open include:

Closing this road will add increased travel time for Emergency Medical Services to the local hospital when a few minutes could be the difference between life and death.

Over time, traffic will decrease, leading to falling revenues to local businesses and increased difficulty in attracting new businesses. In a community of only 2,300 residents that will be disastrous.

Increased traffic flow on alternate routes (state-owned Ridge Rd.) will lead to undesirable economic and business climate changes, especially for the local trucking industry (lost time, extra fuel, additional wear & tear on vehicles and equipment).

The economic incentives from the closure equal to less than 1% of the annual Village of Thornton budget.

Increased state tax burden for maintenance costs to Ridge Rd.

This petition is NOT solely for Village of Thornton residents. It is for Thornton and the surrounding communities that would be adversely affected by a closure. Brown Derby Road is a valuable asset to a great many people that needs to remain open.

Seeing this kind of movement is exhausting but it proves that people see the danger in shutting down Brown Derby Road. I am worn thin by the fight against these boards but your presence here keeps me focused on the goal.

This is a major road and I will not shop at Menards anymore I have been shopping there sense the day it opened it's a disgrace that they can close this road. Have they even thought of the traffic jams because of the closing I think not. This road closing saddens me and numerous other people but like usual you don't care about the small guy only the big guys

This road needs to stay open. If this road closes, it's just going to create more problems for everybody, especially for Emergency Medical Services. As well as for the Police and Fire departments.

Please don't allow the closing of Brown Derby Road just for the sake of Menards to expand. There is plenty of space for Menards to build a larger store right there on Halsted, Across the street where the hotels were stands out as the real estate is currently empty. Why burden 1000 of tax paying residents for the sake of a corporation?

Please keep this Historic road open, which I have used for over forty years to travel from and to the village of Thornton. This closure was not done with the approval of the citizens of the Village of Thornton and I respectfully request that IDOT declines the approval of the the closing of Brown Derby Road.

BD Road is the only way to get to Halsted besides Ridge, unless you go miles to the north or south. With Ridge being only one lane it will surely be backed up with traffic.

I used this road frequently to access I-80. If it closes, I'll have to travel North on Halsted in front of the plaza for an additional 5 stop lights. In the event of an accident on Ridge, traffic would have to be redirected at least a mile away to get across the quarry.

I just got your letter in the mail today. Didn't know about this online petition until now. About a year earlier someone came door to door with a petition that I signed. Did anyone think to extend Brown Derby right between Jewel-Osco & Target? That would solve two problems, you would have a direct shot to & from Halsted & it would also put you right in the middle of the shopping complex. Can't reverse what has already been done, but this would help.

Regards the comment that this is less than 1% of the annual rev/budget of Thornton, and this is such a ridiculous thing, cutting off an outlet that is right next to the Tri-State 80/90 exit, I can only surmise the trustees in Thorton were bribed to pass this.....Hope it was worth it for them....Makes you truly wonder what freebees the trustees of Thornton got for that, inc the Mayor. If not so, this still would be a hugely ignorant move. The trustees and mayor of Thornton are serving commerce, and that not even in their own town, and shutting off one of the main roads leading INTO their own town, that leads directly into their own commerce district....Amazing a store like Menards has carte blanche over an entire town, and they just lost one customer here.
