Oaktojn geographic boundary covers those living in Hunter Mill and Lawyers Rd. That's a HUGE swathe of McMansions. I don't think people living there really care about the traffic snarl that will affect the lives of those living on Blake Lane. They will care if a school was built near their residences. So, unless we prove to these residents that their lives and commute will be affected too, they'll vote yes to a school. Afterall, better us than them.

My biggest concerns are the safety of our elementary children as I know several people that were almost hit by vehicles and the traffic that the new school will bring to Blake Lane. The traffic will now be stopped even longer because of the school buses going in and out along with the parents.

I don't know what problem this is supposed to solve. It removes green space and adds to the sprawl of development and traffic for very little benefit. There's supposed to be space for a school, parking lot, and buses on a piece of land roughly the same size as the PARKING LOT of the AT&T campus?

I believe that evaluating districts would be more pertinent to building a new school. Is it really a bad thing for kids to go to the SLMS or SLHS? My kids go there and I would not change that for the world!!

In a county as densely populated as ours, Fairfax County should be preserving as much green space as it can while it still has it. Time and effort has been invested in this park to make it a richer ecological resource (through invasive plant removals and a pollinator garden) and throwing that community involvement and public green space for the neighbors away to make room for a school just doesn't make sense.

I've been very frustrated by all the destruction of trees near my home and now one more. Do people not realize the importance of wild landscapes/parks to our well being. Please keep this park.

Blake Lane Park is a small oasis in my neighborhood that helps maintain sanity in an Oakton that is becoming more subject to the ever-encroaching tide of oppressive urban sprawl.

Don’t take the park! This park is used constantly by the kids that live in the condos and other housing nearby without yards. Leave them their piece of grass! This park gets used!

Two Comments -(1) why does FCPS need 27 Administration Centers? Time to give some back as schools - some were neighborhood schools taken and never given back! (2) Youth soccer players need that grass field for usage and health! Here are more details: (1) Shouldn't the County look at and maybe give back some of the 27 Administrative Centers taking up neighborhood space? Chapel Square ES became the FCPS Sprague Tech Center and it's never been given back to that neighborhood. The neighboring kids are based to a school 4 miles away. Dunn Loring ES became the Dunn Loring Administrative Center and it too was never given back. Neighbor kids are bussed to schools with trailers over a mile away. Are there more like this? Has anyone looked into this? 27 Administrative Centers - seriously? By School Type

(2) Vienna Youth Soccer needs the few grass fields it has left. During the (VYS) week, many local young kid teams use Blake Lane Field for practices. Where will these teams have to go during week days to practice now? It's no fun being in traffic just to get to soccer practice - a lot won't do it and may not play. On Saturdays, the U6/U5 teams use it for games. It was great central spot for that age, now they may have to be pulled to edges of Vienna, making it too difficult for young families and so splintering the young age division and future VYS membership. Grass is natural, turf effects on bodies is still unknown. Keep the grass field we have for use and health. Don't forsake the kids by putting more and more on turf just for maintenance costs reductions!
