Please do not put this tax through!
I stayed at Two Urns B and B in Chicago and had a wonderful time. B and B's are in my opinion far superior to hotels as they give you a much better feel for the city. Imposing this tax may well result in them not being able to function; a grave loss indeed.

We visit chicago each year and look forward to our visits very much. Low cost B&B's help keep Chicago within our financial reach, I would hate to skip our yearly visit for lack of affordable accommodations.

B&Bs make it possible to appreciate Chicago in its uniqueness by providing excellent accommodation for tourists in neighborhoods. It will be a disaster to expect the B&Bs to pay a higher tax rate for a personal service they run which extends far beyond a commercial hotel service. Don't destroy Chicago's uniqueness by taxing just a few small businesses.

This property tax hike is highly unrealistic. The B&B in the county bring revenue into Chicago. We loved staying at the House of Two Urns. It was right in the middle of everything - very convenient, affordable rates and also free parking. If the taxes are raised this high, they would be forced out of business and that would be a shame. This tax increase is too much at one time.

B&Bs provide a needed service in many neighborhoods and should not be taxed more heavily than hotels and other business categories that provide comparable services.

Actually, Sherrie, the hotel industry is supportive of the 23 licensed Bed and Breakfasts. They are as concerned as we are with the city's lack of support towards the unlicensed Airbnb and vacation rentals.

As a former B&B owner, I know how difficult this market has become for B&Bs with competition from vacation rentals (mostly illegal) and Air BnB (similarly questionable). Why punish a group of small business owners who are following the law while others are pocketing huge sums of cash with no regard for the law? Please do not enact this change.
