This community deserves a GP and a GP who would like to work in this community needs to have a viable business. Wake up Government before you have fully destroyed the fabric of rural Ireland. One size does not fit all.

General Practice outside of large towns is being left to wither on the vine. The business model is broken, but the public believe headlines about large incomes to GPs, and are not helped understand that each practice runs like a small hospital with small hospital expenses on staff and overheads. Practice income is not GP income. Investment needed or general practice will not be around for long.

I worked in Bansha a few years back with Dr Underhill. What a lovely place. Good luck with your petition folks. Thank you for highlighting the issues in rural general practice

Great community work with the petition. Lord knows the help won't come from Commentator Varadkar.

You have lost your Post Office, and your Garda Station. Now you will lose your GP. This is Government Policy - started by Fianna Fail/HSE and Mary Harney back in 2007. The aimed 'Centralisation' of the Medical Services and the destruction of the Medical Profession, has resulted in just that!! As a result all the young, and indeed established Doctors are leaving Ireland to work abroad, many never to return. The result of this is Towns like Bansha - will not be able to get GPs in the future. If you do, it will be a 'short term' Locum doctor from some Recruitment Agency. Rural Practice is dead. It is totally financially unviable for any young Doctor to set up in Rural Practice. This misguided policy is driven by the HSE, and will result in much suffering for rural Ireland. Sad for the citizens of Bansha - but you are just joining an every increasing number of areas in rural Ireland suffering the same fate. Be careful how 'you' treat your GPs because their lives are becoming increasingly more intolerable in this modern Ireland, and this is why they are leaving in their droves!! Sad but true. Be very careful - there are many other Towns and Villages in Rural Ireland manned by old GPs, when they retire in the next year or two - will not be replaced. Bansha - you are not the first and you will not be the last. Take care - but look at the bigger picture when you seek a replacement GP. I wish you much luck. as ever H.P.

Save the local health centre. My mum is an elderly lady and would be lost without this service
