Axel Lund has been a fixture of the Waterdeep campaign since Session 2! From our very first battle with Jarlaxle, to Varren's grandmother's birthday party, to our desperate fight with the Lord of the Wrecks, to helping us exorcise the vengeful spirit of Candice Willoughsby, to aiding Frick in finding the clue that would lead us to the Seraph -- the curmudgeonly half-orc has been one of our most steadfast allies. This is no time to kill him off, just as he's entered a new chapter in his life -- surviving his retirement from the Watchful Order, finding love with Nessie, and becoming a member of the Masked Lords! Axel Lund IS Waterdeep, and without him, who's going to remind Varren to keep his nose clean?

Rumors of my death may have been greatly exaggerated, but rumors of Axel's death? Not on the Blackstaff's watch!
I offered to ghostwrite a memoir of the biggest mysteries he solved for the Watchful Order. Axel said he'd think about it and get back to me. Do you think his memoir would sell better if it was published posthumously?
I don’t know Axel Lund personally, but he sounds great.
I owe him a favour.
Axel is a good guy. Anyone that would kill him off would have to be very evil and would deserve a visit from a certain drake bearing the Hand of Vecna (two evils make a right). Also, Lady Haventree signed the petition, and she's the best, so everyone should listen to her.
Axel Lund? Oh yeah, he did a surprise inspection of the Saucy Satyr when he got temporarily reassigned to the Vice Squad of the Watchful Order. Let me off with a warning and didn't refuse a free drink, so he's good in my book.

I've made no secret of my distaste for Lund's leniency and frankly his retirement from the Watchful Order gave me an opportunity to tighten things up. But nobody ever really leaves the Watchful Order, and I'd like to know he's around if we ever need to call in reinforcements.
