At the end of the year our Athletic Director is being let go and his job is being absorbed back into the vice principals position due to budget issues. This really saddens me. I feel as if he has been a much needed positive influence to our athletic department. The school spirit in Memphis has never been so strong and he is the main reason for this! The school board is still hiding behind the excuse of budget cuts while they dismantle the very department that builds our community spirit. I am meeting with the administrators this week to demand they justify removing Drake Okie when he is the only person actually putting our student athletes first.

The school board thinks they can just sweep Drake Okie under the rug and call it a budget adjustment. This wave of support proves they are dead wrong because we refuse to let them dismantle our athletic department for their cheap convenience.

For the little bit of time he’s been here he’s changed so much. There’s school spirit back into the school! When you walk into the gym you feel the difference. Why get rid of him when he’s making a difference to our athletic program? Once he’s gone I see it going back to how it was. Please reconsider this! Look elsewhere to make “budget cuts”!!!
Not only will we lose an athletic director who everyone supports, but we also just lost our varsity volleyball coach. We need to do something now to save Memphis sports. Even if your child doesn't play sports now, do it for all the younger kids who will. Share this with everyone in Memphis now! Go Memphis Yellowjackets Family!
Drake has done amazing things in his short time. He cares about our kids. My son was injured in a football game out of town, when we came he ur if the ER he was waiting to assure that my son was going to be OK. That's the heart
As a first year Coach Drake has been very supportive and helpful. He is active with every sport and has made fantastic strides in athletic spirit in the community. Our fields and gyms are no longer lackluster in appearance. A part of retaining or gaining students in a school of choice area is through continued athletic advances.
Along with education a strong athletic department is highly important in an education and should not be sacrificed in anyway. This role can not be taken by just anyone and it is obvious in so many ways the positive impact being made to the students and the community by this individual. Money should never trump the importance of the generation after us and their experiences in school.
Mr. Okie has done a terrific job in his first year starting the rebuilding of an athletic department that was neglected to say the least. I think egos are at play here and maybe the board should allow Mr. Okie the opportunity to complete the reconstruction of the athletic department over the next 2 years, Really who could it hurt to allow Mr. Okie this opportunity accept a few bruised egos. For the sake of the kids everyone put your egos in check, bruises and all and play nice. After all, Memphis is a place where people come to build a family and have a quality lifestyle.

This is just a way to keep Kujat working. Will they ever learn? I have heard that School spirit is rocking it. Why go back to the status quo and give the job back to a scheduler, not a doer. Keep things the way they are!!!
