Mind, heart and wellness of human bodies are the most important to keep our souls safe and free of any types of torments. If ASD shall cut that budgets, dominoes effect will occur not only just to minds, but whole of hearts, wellness of bodies and souls.

Teachers are NOT qualified to teach Ignite! Advanced and gifted students deserve a challenge. We would never get rid of Special education, why is this any different?

ASD needs to fight for all students and teachers. IGNITE students are students with special needs. What happened to standing up for our students and staff in Juneau?

When will you consider listening to us, your teachers, what is best for the students? What is being cut over at the district office in order to help balance the budget?

All of the services and teachers that are being cut because of budget constraints must stay. All are so very important to our students.

I am a retired teacher who served in the ASD system. I know how important the IGNITE program was for many of my students. We need to fully support those students. I reject the proposed budget cuts.

It’s ridiculous to cut these programs,

As someone who has both worked and volunteered in classrooms I feel able to discern a continuous decline in the Anchorage school system over the past 42 years. Hard working teachers have their time absorbed by students who have a variety of learning, social and physical skills and naturally those with the most difficulties get the majority of the teachers time while the average and above need programs outside the average classroom to advance their skills. Eliminating programs such as ignite and the health programs that provide basic life skills that may not be taught at home does a huge disservice to our children. It has been my experience that once programs go on the chopping block due to budgetary cuts they are rarely if ever added back in.

Our children and staff deserve and need our support.

I never hear of the wages being cut for the ASD supervisors at the Administration Bldg., in fact they change their titles and give them pay increases. They cut programs and give teachers more and more of a load to carry with more time required of them with less time to teach. The ASD needs to cut the budget from the top down and start valuing the teachers more. They go above and beyond for our students and now they will have to teach ignite and health. Do what’s right for the students and our teachers.

While my children have long been out of the ASD, we believe that combining administration positions, maintenance facilities, and cutting the admin fat that hemorrhages from the top, not in the classroom or health related areas (this includes sports) should be priority. We’ve watched ASD tumble far too long, it’s time to put the needs of the students first. Reading, writing, arithmetic, civics, true history, and unbiased.

Kids need these programs to stay the way they are, if anything they need to improve these programs not eliminate them.

Ignite is an amazing program that helps keep our brightest student engaged.
