For residents of Arvada, Colorado, ONLY The City of Arvada plans to give away land valued at over $1.1 million for only $10. In return, the City allowed the developer of a large, rental apartment building to receive an additional $1 million+ in tax incentives and other financial benefits. To enable this building, the historic Masonic Lodge will be demolished. The City is violating its own design guidelines for Olde Town, requesting waivers on 30 ordinances, including: limiting buildings in Olde Town to two stories, incorporating building design that complements the architecture of Olde Town, and minimizing the impact on historic McIlvoy Park. We, the undersigned, support the preservation of the historic character of Olde Town. We oppose the needless destruction of historic properties. We oppose the failure to follow designated processes and procedures regarding community development. We also oppose the awarding of benefits to private developers without public benefit.
