The authorities have agreed to suspend the relocation of the archive and commit to professional preservation standards. I am exhausted by the uncertainty of these past months but relieved that these documents remain safe for now. We will keep watching to ensure they actually follow through on these promises.
We have received notice from our colleagues in the field of the History of Education in Mexico that the Archivo Histórico de la Secretaría de Educación Pública (AHSEP) of Mexico will again be moved (as it was in 2007) without taking the necessary precautions for the preservation and professional management of this extremely valuable collection of documents.
As scholars and historians interested in the History of Mexico, we are aware of the value of the Ministry of Education’s archive through the excellent research on Mexico´s cultural and political life that has used sources contained in the AHSEP. We therefore share the concern expressed by many historians and educators in Mexico and support their petition to suspend any further action until optimal conditions and arrangements for storage can be guaranteed.
The path forward has been long and exhausting but we are nearing our first hundred signatures. Please send the link to someone else who values our history before the archives are moved again.

Ridiculous that we have to fight for this. Stop moving these records and preserve them properly.

Total incompetence. These documents are irreplaceable and they act like it does not matter.
