Preserve Our Community’s Wellness Hub: Stop the Closure of Active Wellness Center at Reed’s Crossing, Hillsboro, Oregon

We, the undersigned residents of Reed’s Crossing, members of Active Wellness at Reed’s Crossing, and the South Hillsboro community, urgently call on Providence Health & Services to reconsider the planned closure of the Active Wellness Center at Reed’s Crossing, scheduled for July 31, 2025.
The Active Wellness Center at Reed’s Crossing is the heart of South Hillsboro, offering a vital space for residents of all ages to stay active and prioritize preventive health through indoor and outdoor pools, fitness studios, group classes, and diverse programs. It’s a sanctuary where physical health, mental well-being, self-care, and social bonds thrive. As a cornerstone of Reed’s Crossing’s vision for walkable, health-focused living, the Active Wellness at Reed’s Crossing embodies New Urbanism, making it a key reason people choose this community.
We are deeply concerned that closing the Active Wellness Center at Reed’s Crossing will erode our community’s identity as a hub for wellness. It’s a lifeline for preventive health and connection, and losing amenities like the pools will leave a significant gap. While Providence’s plan to repurpose the space for sports medicine and physical therapy is valuable, it doesn’t replace the community-based wellness hub the center provides. This closure decision does not align with Providence Health & Services’ mission to provide compassionate care and enhance community well-being, nor its vision to create healthier communities through holistic health solutions.
We, the petitioners, respectfully request:
- Halt the Closure: Pause the decision to close the Active Wellness Center at Reed’s Crossing and engage in transparent dialogue with the community about alternative solutions.
- Community Input: Hold public forums to gather feedback from residents and members on how to preserve the center’s role in fostering wellness and connection.
- Preserve the Pools: Clarify and ensure the future accessibility of the indoor and outdoor pools, which are unique assets for community health and recreation.
The Active Wellness Center at Reed’s Crossing is a promise of health and connection for Reed’s Crossing. We urge Providence to honor its mission and keep the center open. By signing, we call for preserving this vital community asset. Thank you for listening and supporting healthcare in Oregon.
