Girl softball have saved girls lives. Please reconsider how important this sport is to girls especially when recreation is limited by the beach.

SO MANY YOUNG NORTH FLA GIRLS HONED THEIR SOFTBALL SKILLS ON THEIR WAY TO EARNING COLLEGE SOFTBALL SCHOLARSHIPS THANKS TO THESE FIELDS BEING ABAILABLE TO THEM. INCLUDING MY ON DAUGHTER AMANDA BEAL ALONG WITH FOUR OTHER TEAMMATES THESE CLAY COUNTY YOUNG LADIES WERE MEMBERS OF THE NORTH FLA ROAR AN ELITE TRAVEL SOFTBALL TEAM,THAT I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH AN HONORED TO COACH AN MANAGE FOR TEN YEARS,AS AN EX VARSITY HIGH SCHOOL COACH I WATCHED AS THE BOYS PLAYED ON IMMACULATE FIELDS WHILE THE GIRLS WERE RELAGATED TO PLAYING ON ROCKS AN POORLY MAINTAINED FIELDS AN INFERIOR EQUIPMENT ACROSS NORTH FLA EVEN AS EIGHT YEAR OLDS. I VOWED FROM THE TIME MY DAUGHTER WAS EIGHT THAT I WOULD FIGHT TO SEE SHE WAS PROVIDED THE SAME OPPORTUNITY THAT HER BROTHER AN THE BOYS WERE PROVIDED TO ACHEIVE HER DREAMS AN GOALS OF A COLLEGE SOFTBALL SCHOLARSHIP. SHE AN ALL OTHER YOUNG GIRLS DESERVED THE RIGHT TO PROPER FIELDS AN EQUIPMENT THESE YOUNG GIRLS LONGED FOR A (FIELD OF DREAMS) JUST AS THE BOYS DID AN WORKED JUST AS HARD TO ACHEIVE IT! TO DESTROY THESE FIELDS WOULD BE A GIANT STEP BACK FOR GIRLS ACHEIVING EQUAL ATHLETIC OPPORTUNITY THAT MANY PEOPLE NOT JUST FROM THE BEACHES BUT MANY COMMUNITES ACROSS NORTH FLA ,PEOPLEWHO WORKED SO HARD TO ACHIEVE PROGRESS AN A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD FOR YOUNG GIRLS.I WOULD ASK YOU TO THINK LONG AN HARD NOT JUST ABOUT THE FIELDS YOUR READY TO DESTROY BUT THE LEGACY SO MANY LEADERS AN YOUNG LADIES OF NORTH FLA FOUGHT SO HARD FOR. I WOULD ASK YOU TO CONSIDER SAVING THESE FIELDS ARE IF THEY MUST BE DESTROYED COMMIT TO REPLACING THEM ELSE WHERE CLOSE BYE

Fields are at a minimum as it is around Jacksonville. They are used for more than softball or baseball. Many families use them for picnics and also to play kickball . Leave it for the kids.

As a former coach and board member, one of the diamonds needs to remain so that all of the teams have an adequate number of fields to practice on.. NFGS has built a great place for girls of all ages to participate in a positive environment that they don't have to share with the boys sports and I know of a number of girls that I have coached on those fields that have gone on to play in college and become productive individuals in the work force. Please do not take this away.
