Used to play with Howard ‘Ossie’ Osbourne many years ago. Howard would keep playing until it got so dark you couldn’t see the ball coming over the net!

The tennis club is part of the history, culture and heritage of this part of the capital city. It has provided a valuable service for thousands of people and families in general. It is a well known, well used and highly respected sports facility. Far too often of late city planners and developers have ridden roughshod over local people without regard to their health and well being. It is an absolute disgrace that the area must now battle against the potential loss of such a valuable amenity in an effort to protect its future. It is a damning indictment of politicians, planners, landowners and developers alike when obvious community facilities are threatened in this way.

Whitchurch tennis club was a secure place for me to spend time as a child and enjoy fitness, wellbeing and social gains. There are few better things that a child or adolescent can do to become a well rounded member of society than engage in the learning, social education and competitive environment Whitchurch Tennis club and other sporting clubs provide. Given the exceptional record of sports stars that Whitchurch has produced recently, including Geraint Thomas and Gareth Bale, now is the time to build on the gateways to success rather than reduce them. I can sincerely say that the sports facilities in Whitchurch, including the tennis club, played a pivotal role in devoloping my skills in becoming an active and contributing member of society. I am now a senior member in a technology company that generates hundreds of thousands of pounds for the region and aids in regions development for the fast changing world we face. The closure of this club not only diminishes the niche capabilities of tennis, but also the wider, and more important long term social and economic developments it contributes to. It is imperative that the non financial benefits of this facility hold a great weight in considerations for its future.

Such an excellent community resource, we need these resources for children and adults to get outdoors and get exercise, soon there'll be nowhere to go and it'll encourage the lazy, technological culture that's already taking precedence
