We have lost too many parks.

Many more are on the chopping block.

The latest example is Ormond park. Right now the mayor is attempting to turn Ormond park into a road. His goal is to steal a park away from children to make an entrance to a golf course.

Something is fishy. The city administration has repeatedly overstepped its bounds in destroying parks without the support of our park board or citizens and made-up numbers. Now the city wants to give control of our parks to an outside agency, and one with no track record of success.

The numbers don't add up! There is a lack of transparency in financial accounting for our parks and their maintenance. We don't know how our park millage money is being managed. Special interests seem to have a role in park land decision-making. This is just the latest example of sneaking around to kill our parks.

THIS MUST END NOW!

City Council has called a special meeting on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 6 pm, on the 10th floor of City Hall to consider overturning the mayor's veto of the Council's vote to reject the LEPFA contract to manage the Groesbeck Golf Course. See here for more details.

Updates

The feedback I receive lately reflects a deepening concern for how our city manages public land. Behind the scenes I am tracking the financial documents for park maintenance to see where the disconnect lies between city claims and reality.

Reaching this level of engagement confirms that our community deeply values these green spaces. It is clear that the lack of transparency regarding our parks has caused a significant loss of trust that leaders must address.

There is no excuse for creating a road/entrance/paved access to Groesbeck Golf Course. Patrons of the golf course already have an entrance and destroying a park at the expense of creating ANOTHER way to access the course is ridiculous. Our kids need parks, not more pavement! Please consider the damage this does to the people who live in the neighborhood! Again, patrons of the course already have an entrance!

I feel bad for the neighbors whose children play there and who walk their dogs there. Not sure how the "road" money spent can be justified just so golfers don't have to make two right-hand turns

That park literally was the gateway to my purchase and improvement of a home in the neighborhood. It's an incredible little green space with a cool walking trail on one of the few eskers left in the state.

What's the rush??? There are other options that should be considered. Keep the park for kids, families and wildlife and keep the decision-making process thoughtful, honest and transparent.

Vibrant communities need public parks, green spaces, and recreational facilities. Year after year, the powers that be in Lansing have been going against the will of the people - giving away control of the parks, letting them fall into disrepair, even selling them to developers. The madness needs to stop.

I have lived on Congress for over 30 years and have enjoyed Ormond Park Daily with my children and now my Grandchildren. I do not want our park turned into a road. It is a beautiful green space which is enjoyed by many. I don't want to exchange the sounds of nature for the sound of automobiles zooming in and out

This sort of change should not be implemented without review and comment of voters.
