To Whom It May Concern:

We, as residents of Saugeen-Maitland Hall have found that the recent significant increase in temperature around the building has created a very uncomfortable living situation. We have found that is has begun to interfere with student’s sleeping habits and impacted our ability to concentrate on our studies. We all have our windows open but due to their design, this has provided minimal release from the heat. We have also tried opening our doors as another method of cooling our rooms, but because the heat in the hallways exceeds that in our rooms, this has little to no impact. We therefore are requesting that temperatures in common areas around the building be reduced. We understand that this is a large progress and is regulated by the university, but we believe that this is a serious issue that should be taken into consideration by whichever authority has say over the temperature of residences. Even as it gets colder we believe a reduced temperature in the hallways will be beneficial because the heating systems in the rooms will enable students to increase temperatures in there rooms if they are uncomfortable but there are no other resources to help reduce the temperature. We are proud to call Saugeen-Maitland Hall our home but find that it is currently not an environment that we can comfortably live in.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Concerned residents of Saugeen-Maitland Hall
