A Condemning Announcement Against the Judge Decision of Unayzah Court We, Saudi citizens, strongly condemn the decision which was made by the judge of court Unayzah, Habib Al-Habib, rejecting a plea to divorce an eight-year-old girl married off by her father to a man in his fifties, saying the case should wait until the girl reaches puberty. We agree with the Saudi Womens Group's claim that: "This decision of the judge of Unayza, Habib Al-Habib is a violation against children's basic rights. Children's marriage has many bad side effects of them. It makes children lose their sense of security and safety. Also, it destroys their feeling of being loved and nurtured. It causes them a life-time psychological problems and sever depression. Moreover, children marriage creates unhealthy families because they were built on bad relationships. In addition, the judge decision in this case contradicts with Shoura Consults' recommendation which considered a person who is 18 of age is a child and should be treated likewise. We request the Minster of Justice and human rights groups to interfere now in this case by divorcing the eight years girl from the fifty-eight-year-old man. They must end this marriage deal which was made by the father of the girl and the husband." Saudi Voices in support of 8-year old's divorce plea.
