After the whole $3 after 3pm for parking in the garage privilege was taken away, this puts hundreds of cars into the streets, forced to find meter parking. Parking in the battery is not as easy as it sounds...you can do a few loops and still not find parking. Not to mention if you do, you have people walking to their car far away in the middle of the night, a lot with cash earnings. Most garages are booked with monthly passes, so thats not an option. $16 a day is just not acceptable. Thats roughly over $300 a month, just to park so we can help promote tourism in Charleston. For some people, thats about 2 hours of work for the day, just to park. Because of this, lots of jobs will be harder to fill. I see people running late, having to run out to "feed their meter", whether it is a block away or 10 blocks away. SOMETHING has to be done. Food and bev is one of the main spotlights that Charleston has to offer. People come from all over the world to see and experience US. Let us feel appreciated for that fine sense of Southern hospitality that everyone talks about. Im sure that if you asked the hospitality industry workers for ideas, we could all collaborate and come up with a great and fair idea to help resolve this issue!

I have been bartending and managing at restaurants in downtown Charleston for over fifteen years. I assure you, this would benefit everyone involved. More parking for clientele, less hassle and cost for the people who cater to them...

I like the idea. But what about those who aren't in Eest Ashley or mt pleasant. Those are just extra driving for those from north Charleston and Summerville. Trully if this is the route taken there should also be a hospitality parking deck downtown with lowered rates just for employees. This deck would be for those who don't live near these parking places for buses to run.

I'm a manager in the food and beverage industry and I fully understand that the continued growth and success of our restaurant could not happen without affordable parking for our employees. The infrastructure for public transportation across island communities is non-existent. People must drive to work. Our industry wouldn't exist without workers and we have to figure out a way to fix this issue.

I hope John Teclenburg receives this. Figure out the parking situation now if you expect Charleston to continue a growth pattern in economy by managing our cities problems. Start with the shortage and huge expense of parking for the workforce Downtown.
