Petition for Sussex University to Take Action to Eradicate Sexual Violence and Harassment Against Students
As a student/member of staff at the University of Sussex
I want to draw your attention to the fact that 1 in 7 women students in the UK have experienced a serious physical or sexual assault during their studies. (NUS Hidden Marks Report 2009-2010)
I believe that all students have the right to live and study in an environment free from sexual violence and harassment. I believe that sexual harassment and violence is a serious problem that affects students and that all survivors have the right to care, respect and support.
I demand that the University takes action to address the problem of sexual harassment and violence, thereby showing its dedication to the rights and welfare of its students.

Two hundred and fifty people have now told the administration that their silence on this crisis is unacceptable. Michael Farthing and his team can no longer pretend this is just a minor issue while we keep growing.

The stories coming into my inbox prove that Michael Farthing and his leadership group are completely failing to keep students safe. I am currently compiling these accounts to shove in their faces because they refuse to acknowledge that this campus is a dangerous place. We are going to keep escalating until they stop ignoring the reality of sexual violence here.

STOP IGNORING SURVIVORS. take action now.
I been at Sussex for 3 years and it still feels like they dont care about our safety. unacceptable.
It is honestly terrifying how little the university does about this. change needs to happen immediately.
Uni should be a place where we feel safe not looking over our shoulders all the time. do something about this.
Enough is enough. make sussex safe for everyone.
