SARASWATI at YSU

We, the undersigned students of Youngstown State University, respectfully urge the university administration to consider the installation of a Saraswati statue on campus — a symbol of wisdom, learning, and the pursuit of knowledge.
In Hindu tradition, Maa Saraswati is revered as the goddess of education, music, arts, and intellect — values that align deeply with the mission of higher education. For many students from South Asian backgrounds, Saraswati is not only a cultural symbol but a guiding force in academic life.
Installing this statue would:
• Celebrate cultural diversity and inclusion on campus
• Offer a space of reflection and inspiration for students of all backgrounds
• Honor the values of wisdom, learning, and enlightenment that transcend religion
This initiative is part of Hindu YUVA’s broader goal to build a stronger sense of belonging for international and culturally rooted students at YSU. The statue would stand as a cultural landmark, just as other spiritual and cultural symbols do at universities across the country.
We hope you will support this effort to represent the voices of Hindu and Indian-origin students and foster a truly inclusive environment that respects all traditions and beliefs.
Please sign this petition to show your support.
Let’s bring Saraswati Mata to YSU and celebrate learning in all its forms.
Thank you,
Hindu YUVA at YSU
