Legalize Chickens and Bees in San Leandro
San Leandro is the only city in Alameda County that does not allow residents to raise chickens and have bees, and we would like to see SL Ordinance #3-5-100 changed to allow chickens and bees and to accommodate the growth and interest in urban farming. Many people in San Leandro already have chickens without problems or complaints from neighbors, or raise bees to produce honey. Like us, they have already joined the movement for sustainable, local farming to raise food for themselves and their neighbors. We consider ourselves law abiding citizens, but when a 40 year old law just does not make sense with current ways of living, our only choice is to ask that it be amended. Please help us show the City Council and the Mayor of San Leandro that there is wide-spread support for this ordinance to be changed to legalize chickens and bees!
