We desperately need to have a balance of residential and shops. This is how downtown San Jose died 20 yrs ago, no balance. Bring in a grocery store that's not an express one (the safeway downtown is too small), how about a retail shop? We have little to none nearby in any category.

Need more shops and restaurants instead of more apartments. Today I have to go to Santana Row

In each urban neighborhood, real estate development must have balanced business/office, residential, retail/service use. Any new project must prioritze the underserved function, while not crowding existing ones.

We absolutely need more retail, not housing in the AXIS area. Build the buildings that have been approved elsewhere. This would supply more than enough housing. This city is SERIOUSLY lacking in services and retail in the AXIS, Centerra, Silvery Tower area.

Would love more children play areas that are not full of homeless and/or vandalized. We need more people play space and parks!

No more construction for buildings! Maybe parking lots!!! Those are definitely needed. And yes, more fun interactive community sites would be wonderful!

As a resident, I would to see more amenities, rather than more residential units in the area.

Would love to see more things to do in the downtown SJ area. Current variety of options feel very limited

More entertainment less residents

Keep us entertained with activities near home so we don't have to venture to other cities or districts to do basic activities.

I support an entertainment venue. Drown is hurting in this area... need to invest in places for people to get out and see.

Bought in to axis 7 years ago because of the view , the rise of centerra blockes half the view, it would be horrible for the other half to be taken away, I would have invested in Chicago or new york.

I'm just using this as a reply platform to point out a false statement in the petition wording: "We have many restaurants and bars, but we do not have a destination venue where we can engage in day-to-day activities such as Luxury Cinemas, Modern Bowling Alley, High Tech Golfing, Basic Services, Retail, Dog Park, etc. Currently we have to drive to OTHER CITIES for these activities and services " The above statement is mostly NOT true. San Jose has all of those activies and services. There are no need to drive to any other cities for them. Luxury Cinemas is about the only thing on that list that San Jose do not have--and guess what, no one else has it outside of SF. There are several bowling alleys in San Jose proper, including one at Oakridge Mall, that can be accessed by lightrail from Downtown. There are no high-tech golfing anywhere in the Bay Area--but there will be one soon in North San Jose (Top Golf) which will be accessible by lightrail from Downtown and a 15 minute walk. Basic services? None in San Jose? Preposterous. Downtown residents only need to drive 5 minutes to SJ Market Center for that. And now that Autumn Road is open, you can also walk and bike there relatively quick, especially if you're in the San Pedro neighborhood. There are no retails in Downtown, but once again, Oakridge Mall in south San Jose can be accessed via lightrail from Downtown. And San Jose proper is mecca for retail: Westgate, Oakridge, Eastridge, Valley Fair, Santana Row. If you want your retail, you have no need to go anywhere else outside the city. Regarding dog park, there are two located within a 5-10 minute walk of Andy's Pet Shop in Downtown. San Jose itself has a gazillion dog parks. PLEASE refrain from using these false, grandstanding, sensationalistic statements.

Hanif, San Jose Downtown currently has 50,000 workers. It is not a bedroom community at all, as the amount of Downtown residents is much smaller than the number of workers. If Google builds out its campus, and Adobe and other companies continue to grow, we will see 80,000 very soon. Add to that BART and HSR coming into Diridon in 10 years, and Downtown will project to have over 100,000 workers within 20 years. So I would not worry about SJ Downtown becoming a bedroom community. It isn't one right now, and isn't going to be one in any kind of future, with or without any additional residential developments.

Sorry Robert. High rises are the way to go in San Jose, especially in Downtown. San Jose is the 10th largest city in the US, it is not a village. It is going to need to grow, and grow upwards, so that it can stick as many jobs and residents as possible into as little footprint as possible. This will benefit all of us in the City.

I agree Gary. But as I have pointed out, the location doesn't lend itself to any other usage besides government purposes or residential. It's a hidden block that is separated away from the thriving San Pedro Square Market and also cannot be seen on any of the main Downtown thoroughfares (Santa Clara, San Fernando, Market, 1st, 2nd). An entertainment venue there would certainly have a hard time to keep their businesses profitable.

The location of this makes it hard to work as an entertainment and activity destination. It cannot be seen from any main thoroughfares through Downtown, and is separated from San Pedro Square Market by the Centerra high-rise. It also faces the sound wall of 87, and to me it doesn't look a like a good place for anything else other than residential usage. Personally, the Axis building should have gone on this lot, and the lot where Axis currently sits can be developed into an entertainment hub/office complex since it faces Santa Clara street, one of the main Downtown streets. But we can't pull back time so we're just gonna have to do the best with what we got.
