I would love to see the data for no show rates and improved utilization. Seems like this would be core to delivering on the original intents.

The reservation concept is a predictable failure that will only disappoint supporters and damage the islands and islanders. The ferry is a toll bridge which the users pay for in taxes, fares and their time. It is not a cruise ship or tour boat. Scrap the reservation system asap.

I have missed 2 ferries waiting in the 1 hour line up backed to Anacortes, I did not make it to the toll booth in time for my reserved ferry that left it out me. "Of course we will change your reservation time for later no charge " said the ferry 800 number I called to complain. What do I make a reservation for if the toll booth back up means I need to get there 3 hours early only to be told to come back later.

Needs to address a more flexible way for residents to get on and off island. Especially on short notice.

It is very difficult to know when you are going to be able to come home to the island in advance at times. Even three hours isn't enough time to know. There is a way to allow the islanders to be known and at least given some priorities to get home. I do realize it is the state highway system but, everyone has a right to get home. I know they close traffic on some streets and only allow those who live there to pass. I think perhaps another meeting is in order.

I absolutely understand your dilemma to accommodate tourists but the quality of life of the islands' residents is only reasonable!

Many concerns. If locals can't use their " highway" do get normal everyday things done in the off season then what's it gonna be like in the summer. Also smaller ferries is not ok. To name a few things.

I have lived in the San Juans for over 40 years, this is where I choose to raise my family. I am an employer of multiple families, contribute heavily back into my community & sometimes need to go off island same day without notice via my business. I understand that gas, groceries, supplies are more expensive, sometimes its difficult to get home but the new reservation system favors the tourists who have the ability to plan months, weeks, days ahead of time to "vacation" here. If needed I just want to be able to leave the same day & come "home" without having to struggle through tourists that have made reservations months, weeks, days ahead of me. Please get rid of the reservation system that favors tourists & cripples many people who live here year round.

Give residents some percentage of reservations, particularly in the summer. Priority for those that make the islands home is essential. Without them, the tourists wouldn't have anywhere to eat or shop, right? Then folks might get on board, no pun intended, with the system. Islanders need to see that this is benefiting them and not taking away freedom to travel on their terms.

Working hard to not go off-island. Probably not helpful for usage numbers.

This system is set up for people planning vacations.. Not the people who live here and and need access to the ferries to make our lives happen!

i fear for the folks who don't use a credit card. How do they use the system. So far the two times we have used our reservations, the system was far from user-friendly. We arrived at Anacortes at the same time as another reserved party with the SAME LAST NAME. This brought everything to a grinding halt while the booths tried to figure things out. Couldn't scan our ipad, had to read the res. number out loud to agent (seriously?) arrived one hour prior to sailing and the line was so far up the hill, that we didn't get to the booth until 20 minutes prior to sailing, therefore negating our reservation. All on a MONDAY. In APRIL. How can this possibly improve for weekends in the summer?

With the current reservation system 1. I was not been able to get home until the late ferry for an emergency Dr. appt. on a Friday. 2. One ferry sailing for the 3rd of July to Lopez is already sold out and the 3rd of July is more than 2 months away!! 3. I am not able to make last minute daytime appointments without waiting until the 9 pm ferry to come home. 4. If you get to the line early you have to go back out and park elsewhere to wait and then come back in, sometimes fighting a long line of cars to get into the line in time to make your 30 minute reservation deadline. 5. For all the above the system is very stressful. 6. I prefer first come first serve even though I may have to wait longer on holidays

since this is the residents of the San Juans highway..we do deal with the DOT on this..then it must reflect the same level of freedom that traveling any other road to Home does for our Citizens. Even my doctor appointments have been damaged by the lack of flexibility. That causes even more Health issues and stress to the system for me, Now i can rarely go for even important things...if they are unplanned. Revison in light of our Islands home and freedoms Must be addressed.
