I would like to petition the issues that has become one of the most controversial subject and that is same sex marriage. I believe that marriage is a word that should be used for a man and a woman. The concept of ‘marriage’ is so deeply entrenched in such long-standing and diverse religious and cultural traditions that it seems to me that such a concept cannot be said to reflect a same-sex union, and is not likely to find support as such. The possible name change may help Christians accept the change if the words are changed to say, "Common Law Union, Civil Law Union, Civil Union, ". It has all the rights as a legal union and it should be a license like a marriage license. If "Common law Union" replaces the "Marriage" name it would make those who oppose reconsider the name change. They will hold the same legal stature of a "marriage" but the word will be changed. They will not be treated as second class citizens. They will have the same rights and obligations to a traditional marriage.They can hold the very same values as traditional couples such as hospital visitation, life insurance, health insurance and other rights as a traditional couple. They even have the right to divorce. Lawsuits would stop as well as the discrimination issues with other venues. As a Christian I along with other Christians believe the word marriage is sacred and should be used for what it is intended for and that is the marriage between a man and a woman only. It will have the rights just the same as a real marriage. It just will not be called a marriage. It may even sway the clergymen to open their church to join the couples. Instead of "Holy Matrimony" it should say "We join these two in common law union." If Christians feel threatened some may close their shops and people will be jobless and if a business is taken to court then they may go out of business because of the money lost. This nation may divide and become uncivil rest is just around the corner. Please listen to those who want civil rest and reconsider the term marriage for same sex couples.
