Skateboarding is an american pastime that has been popular since the 1950's. It has grown from just a fad into a national sport. Skating requires focus, physical coordination, motivation, creativeity and plenty of energy. Most skaters have their own social network and enjoy skating together or they can just spend hours practicing alone. Saluda is a typical small town and the only facility we have ever had that is mainly for our children is the swimming pool, which is only available in the summertime. A few years ago Saluda built a park with a walking track and a small playground for very small children. The park is wonderful for all the adults to get their daily excercise while they stroll their babies and let their little ones play. However, our older children, say 8 to 16 are still bored out of their minds. The streets are too dangerous for them to walk, ride their bikes, or skate alone. Our town has been in need of a recreational pastime facility that will allow our children to enjoy themselves while socializing and getting the physical excercise they need and crave. A place that is only for them but is also save with the necessary rules and supervision.
