The plant is finally shutting down for good. My lungs and my neighbors can finally breathe because we refused to accept the status quo. I am keeping a close eye on the site cleanup to ensure they do this right.
PETITION FOR CLOSURE
We the undersigned call for immediate closure of the Salem Harbor Power Plant owned by Dominion. Fifty six years of coal dust and soot is enough. We deserve the right to breathe clean air and ask for a redevelopment of the power plant site.
Seeing five hundred names on this list feels like a weight lifting off my chest because it confirms I am not the only person tired of breathing this soot. Thank you for choosing to fight alongside me for the air quality our neighborhood deserves.

I spent the entire morning cleaning the thick gray film off my porch again and it serves as a bitter reminder of why we started this fight. Dominion ignores our letters but they cannot ignore the growing number of people who demand to breathe freely in our own homes.

The city of Salem has the potential to be a vital hub of activity & commerce. We can provide so much more to draw patrons & tourists to Salem. Cleaning up the environment, the very air we breathe, and the harbor area will enhance our quality of life and "breathe" new life into the community as we move toward the future.

I love the city of Salem and want it to be a community in which I can feel safe spending my life and potentially even raising a family. That won't happen if the city can't clean up its act, and clean up its Harbor. I urge the city to look toward the future and embrace clean, sustainable living conditions rather than condemning its population to sickness and shorter lifespans.

My kids have asthma and I am sick of dealing with the soot on our cars and windows. Shut it down already.

Enough is enough. Tired of seeing that smoke every morning when I wake up. Time for something new.
