The salary reduction for lawmakers has officially passed. My energy is drained after this long fight but the relief for our hospitals and families makes the struggle worthwhile. We will remain watching to ensure these funds are directed back to the people who need them most.

  • As per public knowledge, our Liberian Law Makers' salary is around 15k. In this light, a few of us came together to get 10k plus signatures to petition our lawmakers to reduce their salary. Sick patients at facilities in Liberia buy their own medications daily. Against this backdrop, some doctors, have decided to create this online link to solicit signatures to petition them. If that does not work, we are then willing to organize a mass protest.

This is not about us, but our children's future. We are professionals and can survive any bad economy, but what about a pregnant woman who cannot afford her hospital bills; what about the children whose parents cannot afford to buy them ACT for Malaria; what about the old folks?

In fact, on average, we work more hours than any other profession, yet we are underpaid, but the guys who go to work twice a week get thousands, while the masses suffer.

We want your support. We can't sit and see Liberia fall so fast. If we do, posterity will judge us all.

The stories shared in the comments about patients struggling to afford basic care are heartbreaking and confirm exactly why this fight is necessary. It is exhausting to witness how much they take while the hospitals go without, but we are not stopping until there is an answer.

The lawmakers salaries should be cut by 50%. They are public servants. The doctors are on 2500 gross monthly salary while the school dropouts are on 15k n they claim government don't have money. Most ridiculous thing we seeing.

As a health care professional working in the United States, I'm in solidarity with the Liberian health care workers . They need better salary and a better working environment in Liberia. We can't have a country where a group of people are maxing wealth as the majority lives in abject poverty .

I believe that this petition is timely and necessary. While this may push the legislators to consider salary reduction across the board, it is very important that they prioritize salaries/pay of health workers, teachers and agricultural workers. Thanks.

This is a despicable act to say the least. How can lawmakers in the fourth poorest country on the face of the earth 'earn' more than US Congress members? Say no to exorbitant salaries for public officials!

I'm happy to heve participated in and add my signature to this worthy cause. I would recommend that the organizers set benchmarks - price ceiling and price floor - for the salaries of our Legislators in line with international good governance practices.

We professionals have come to the conclusion that the SALARIES and BENEFITS of our lawmakers are unbearable and causing far reaching consequences; therefore, we are demanding, not appealing, for immediate Reduction and said funds be diverted to improve other government's functionaries like Hospitals and schools
