27th July 2010 - On 22nd July 2010 Kettering Borough Councillors voted 4 to 3 to turn down the planning application for the Sainsburys store on the Great Bear Site.
Public opinion was in favour of the store on the proposed site. The store could create 200 jobs for local people. The Lawrence site is run down, but proves not to be big enough for a decent supermarket with a petrol station.
If you believe that the Kettering Councillors have let the residents of Desborough down by once again not listening to us, then we would welcome you to sign this online petition and ask friends and family in agreement to do the same.

I am currently compiling the signatures to formally present them to the Kettering Borough Council planning department. We are also monitoring the local press for any official statement regarding a potential appeal from Sainsbury's developers.

The scale of this response is compelling evidence that the council decision does not align with the public interest. I am currently preparing a formal letter to both the planning committee and Sainsbury's representatives to ensure these results inform their next steps regarding an appeal.

total joke. councillors are out of touch with what the people actually want.
200 jobs! why would you turn that down? unbelievable.
we need this here desperately. hope they appeal it soon.
Desborough needs this shop. jobs are hard to find around here and the council just ignores everyone who lives here.
the site is just a dump right now. surely a sainsburys is better than looking at an empty eyesore every day.

GET IT BUILT. tired of having to drive all the way to kettering just to get a decent weeks shop done.
