I beleive that this is a smart move. USRA as a sanctioning body should first and foremost put the saftey of drivers and spectators before performance. I have seen wheels break off countless times. Many ending in a multi car pile up.

The 1" lugnut that is mandatory by USRA and IMCA is NOT the same bevel in degrees at the seat as a factory lugnut. Thereby putting the holding power of the actual nut in danger of not doing its job safely.
