Horses getting upset in the starting stalls and breaking free, sometimes by ducking under the gate, represent a danger for both horse and jockey. For the past 25 years here at Mick Easterby Racing we have used a safety rein to prevent this from happening. There has never been any problem or incident. However, we do not know how many injuries to horse and jockey that this may have prevented.
I have been banned from using this rein on the racecourse and feel this is a serious injustice for a device which prevents horse and jockey from potentially serious injury.

Reaching this level of visibility honestly feels exhausting yet necessary. It proves that people outside my barn finally see the danger we have been trying to prevent for years.

I've never sat on a horse in the stalls at the races, and I'll bet most of those behind the decision to ban this device, never have either.
signed in support of MWE, some nasty accidents have happened in the stalls some even resulting in death. Think twice bha some of this trainers know what they are doing.
safety must come first at all times why to bann something if it works without having anything to replace it with not even a idee.when something happens in the startingstalls you will not be happy rode myself on horses in the race that went down the frontdoors of the stalls wish I had a safetyrein/strap like this
This is a must use in the stalls, the horses and jockeys safety is imperative, just because the BHA didn't invent it does not mean it is not a useful piece of equipment
A 25 year record of safety without a single incident, the BHA should be promoting this sort of device and not banning it!
Commen sense I bet the ones that made the decision have not rode a crank in the stalled they would soon change the minds good luck mick

I fully support this petition.As well as working in Racing yards all my life I have also worked on the Starting Stalls at the Races and I know the stall handlers would support this
