It is unbelievable that we do not yet have agreed safe staffing levels. In my F1 year I was frequently in tears at the stress of being in an understaffed team and worked so many hours of overtime as a result making me utterly exhausted. Due to understaffing we spend so much time providing a service, training on the job simply doesn't happen. In my current hospital my poor medical SHO colleagues are looking after up to 50 patients single handedly as there is no one more senior on their team.

Minimum staffing levels need to be specified for emergency work and routine work separately.
