On the night of March 25, 2013, John Jonghun Lee, a beloved son, brother, and friend, left our sides at the very young age of 18. He was hit by a full speed train by the Robbins Lane crossing. At the exact location, around the same time last year, another man was also struck by a train and killed. The purpose of this petition is not to demand a compensation for the lost lives. Rather, it is a proactive attempt by the family and friends who have lost their beloved ones at the repeated tragedies that occur at this location to prevent future accidents. As everyone who is familiar with the area is aware, the tracks by Robbins Lane lack a measure of protection or caution for those who are crossing. There are no signs cautioning pedestrians that the trains run on full speed in the area, no fences, nor a legitimate crossing area with active traffic bars. We believe that in order to prevent even more future losses, the town must come together and devise a plan to enact protective measures in this area. Merely covering up these accidents with the unacceptable speculation of suicide will not bring about any solutions. A simple installment of fencing around the area, or even a warning sign, will make a great deal of a difference in the future. As a resident of the town of Oyster Bay, please consider this thought for a moment: the next victim of an unexpected tragedy at this location could be your family member, a loving friend, or even yourself. This is not just for one person, but for the safety of the residents of the entire town of Oyster bay. By signing below, I agree that by establishing safety measures by the tracks by Robbins Lane is necessary for the safety of everyone, including myself.
