Safely Re-Open Our Schools

Open schools kids are failing

All Teachers and children need to be in SCHOOL Life is not to be on hold even under Covid. Life must continue to be a blessing even under unusual situations.

Please follow the science, and the rest of the world. For the sake of your children and for the sake of our nation's competitiveness in the world arena stand up to the unions and ask that their teachers (who claim they are essential workers) ACT like essential workers. My high school senior attempted suicide in September and dropped us into a world we never knew existed. A world of crisis hospitals and residential treatment centers with long waiting lists filled with high school students who've said the isolation of distance learning pushed them to attempt to end their lives. To make the fear, and pain, and loneliness stop. They have been robbed of everything necessary for healthy social and emotional development right at a crucial neurological developmental stage. Just when they are designed to start separating from family and attaching to circles outside the family circle, they have been forced to limit exploration and curiosity and, yes, risk taking. Actions necessary at this stage of brain development. In addition to a high school senior I have one college freshman studying (thankfully) at an out of state college where he is living in a dorm and having some classes meet in person. He is acting like an idiot, doing stupid things, making new friends, eating crappy dorm food, and meeting professors in real life. All part of the process in learning how to be an adult. My other college freshman (yes, 3 kids in 22 months) is at a UC, studying from his childhood bedroom having met a total of ZERO new people and no professors. He said he stares out his bedroom window, finding motivation elusive, and wonders when he will he able to make his way in the world. What is it that SJUSD knows that no one else in the world, or our country knows, that justifies the unions preventing a safe return to school. Just what are they asking for? Equal education should be up there in priority.

Please, do!!! My 8 yrs old says she is bored and wants to kill herself when she is bored. This is just scary!!! Kids need to go back to school!

This is needed, period.

My kids occasionally cry and tell me that the schools are never going to open again. They also ask why some of their friends who go to private schools can go to school in person and they cannot. No friends, no social interaction 6 hours on WebEx. This is definitely not school. We want schools to open.

Keeping schools closed hurts our low income children. This is wrong. The school districts should be sued for this travesty.

I am also a teacher.

I pay rent to enjoy my home not for it to be a school or work place. My kids should have a proper education They need to have a social life this is not the way children should be in their homes 24 hours a day do you not understand what is happening to these kids this is why society is the way it is now
