Given the documented limitations of RA duties, the ongoing overflow of incident reports related to unauthorized access, and the financial constraints that have hindered effective oversight, it is imperative that the university take decisive action. The installation of professional security guards at residence hall entrances will not only address these security gaps but also foster a safer, more secure living environment for the entire campus community.

Concerns that professional security presence would create an oppressive or “police state” atmosphere are unfounded. Rather, the presence of trained security personnel serves as a proactive and protective measure that benefits all residents by deterring unauthorized access, preventing potential safety incidents, and allowing Resident Assistants to focus on their core responsibilities in student support and community development.

We respectfully urge university leadership to prioritize the safety of its residents by allocating resources for dedicated security guards within university housing. This critical step will demonstrate the university’s commitment to fostering a secure, welcoming, and supportive campus community.
