Here the undersigned, in order to advance school, street and pedestrian safety, request from the City of Toronto Transportation Services and Toronto Police Services the following:
To install a controlled intersection with a crossing guard at the corner of Sunbeam Avenue and Faywood Boulevard to safely service the morning and afternoon pedestrian traffic coming to, and going from the school across Faywood Boulevard.
Why we are requesting this:
This year Faywood has 18 buses using the bus loop and as a result it is inaccessible to parents wishing to drive their children to school. Since many families had used the loop for drop off and pick up prior to this, they now are parking across the street on Sunbeam Avenue and then walking across Faywood Boulevard to the school entrance. Faywood Boulevard is a busy street during the rush hours and this crossing is unsafe as it stands now without a stop sign, marked crosswalk or crossing guard. We are working with our local City Councillor and School Board Trustee to ensure a safe intersection is implemented quickly through the City of Toronto Transportation Service (they put up stop signs or crosswalks) and Toronto Police Services (they supply the crossing guards) to ensure a safe environment for all our students as well as for the community as a whole. We need parent and community support to help push this initiative through the system as quickly as possible. With winter coming, the need for this only increases.

The City of Toronto Transportation Services has been ignoring our safety needs for too long but this surge of support proves they cannot hide from us anymore. We are building real momentum and forcing them to acknowledge the danger our children face every single morning. Keep the pressure on them because we are not going to stop until a crossing guard is standing on that corner.

I've always wondered why we don't have a crossing guard. It may encourage more parents to walk or let their kids walk to school.
This corner has become a true safety concern that needs to be addressed immediately.
This is a priority and we would like to see this very soon for the safety of all families.
I am glad to see parents taking initiative with their children's safety! Incidentely, I too have a concern with crossing safety at the corner of Collinson and Invermay, as every morning there is very heavy traffic on all four ways of this intersection!! There are stop signs, but I really feel there is a need for either a crosswalk, or crossing guard to help us all cross safely there!! I have felt this way for the past four years that my eldest daughter has attended Faywood, but did not know how to go about addressing my concerns. If anyone could please help in this matter also, it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
There's are a ton of students that cross at the intersection of King high and Faywood to access the walkways to the rear of the school. I believe most students in the area enter these routes. A crossing guard is very needed there as well.

Pedestrian safety is definitely an opportunity in Ward 10. Happy to sign - hope you see the changes you are petitioning for!
