The University of North Carolina at Wilmington has used an unfair process to suspend SAE fraternity from its' campus for two years. This fraternity has a 30 year history at UNCW with no disciplinary action on record beyond a sports suspension for one semester in 2008. Which, by the way, began the targeting of this fraternity since it stood up against unfair practices at this university. The system is so unfair that it generated a law in North Carolina called the Student Administration Equality act. This law forces universities to allow attorney representation for all students facing disciplinary action by a university since this right was denied SAE fraternity. This is the first law in the nation that gives students this right. Not content with suspending the fraternity from campus, the university has placed a Scarlet letter on each former member. How? They have threatened every sorority and fraternity on campus with suspension if more than three of their members interact with any former SAE members. And what were the transgressions that caused the suspension of this fraternity ? They were found guilty of having an open container of alcohol around minors and for attempting to have a party with some sorority girls while they were under investigation for accusations which were dropped. That's it. Meanwhile a member of the UNCW administration assured that his own fraternity received only one year of suspension for hazing just a few months later.
