Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non medical reasons. It has no health benefits and harms women and girls in many ways.
FGM is known internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women. It reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes and involves an extreme form of discrimination against women.
