According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation sound barriers are only erected for homes built prior to highway expansion. According to my research, the homes along I-24 in the Rock Springs Road area were built both before and after the last expansion of I-24. Research has shown that those who reside near major highways have increased hearing loss. Research also shows that children are more likely to have ADHD due to the constant highway noise. Sound barriers have been shown to improve both of these conditions. Close proximity to highways has also been shown to cause homes to "settle" at an accelerated rate. Again, sound barriers have been shown to slow settling to a near-normal rate. A previous petition drive for this project fell short as we were unable to generate the needed number of signatures going door-to-door. We hope to generate 500 or more signatures from the residents along Rock Springs Road near I-24. A year ago Channel 4 News expressed interest in doing a story on our project if we obtained enough signatures. Please check out the links that show some of the research I have referenced.  One of the studies was even a science project by a seventh grade student (some of the best research I have found!).   Thank you for your support.
