Re Nail Pond Shore Road
We, the tax paying residents of rural PEI, propose that the mere .5 km stretch of unpaved residential roadway and public beach access, be upgraded to a paved surface with proper ditching.
Annual maintenance cost savings would be realized on upkeep of this stretch of road with the elimination of calcium chloride applications for dust control , multiple surface gradings and road repairs due to washouts.
There are 5 year round residences and 12 seasonal residences on this stretch of road. Red clay roads may be quite scenic, but during periods of mild weather in the winter, excessive rainfall in the summer and spring thaw, this road becomes virtually impassable. If there were ever an emergency such that an ambulance or fire truck were needed in this area at these times, it would be uncertain that these services could be provided.
The road is a valuable asset and a basic municipal service for our small community. With an unpaved road, not only is the safety of permanent and seasonal residents at risk, but access to the public beach is compromised and this greatly impacts the tourism industry and real estate sales in the area.

The Department of Transportation continues to ignore our messages while the road remains a muddy trap for anyone needing emergency help. I am tired of their negligence putting our safety and property at risk for the sake of cutting corners on infrastructure costs.

The bureaucrats in charge continue to ignore the impassable mess at Nail Pond Shore Road but this wave of support proves they cannot hide from us much longer. Your anger matches mine and it is forcing the provincial government to finally acknowledge our basic safety needs.

Our road needs to be paved, gov't has spent money paving roads with much fewer houses on them, its our turn.
First of all, we areCanadian with full residency in Nova Scotia and seasonal residence on Nail Pond Shore Road. We pay 30%+ more taxes and feel that paving this short distance of the road not only takes care of any emergency issues for fire trucks, ambulance and road maintenance cost factor, it also gives us folks who pay higher taxes a sense of a greater return for our tax $$$$.

My wife and I are seasonal residents here and we certainly support this petition. The net outcome in paving this very small section of road will be safety and security for all permanent and seasonal residents, and increased tax revenue through resuiting real estate activity in this area.
