For the simple reason of having this feature as an option, makes sense. I don't know that this is the right service or that this is the right way to go about it. But I love that it starts the conversation.

A great idea. I have had this thought for ages now. Very unfair that companies make money when runners, 9 times out of 10 will have a genuine reason for not being able to make a race.

So many races entries list through injury not fault of my own but should be able to transfer number to another runner

This will also enhance security and safety. By having a legit way to transfer or re-sell a bib, you'll be able to have a better idea of knowing that Jack Smith running with bib 55237 is really Jack Smith and not someone running with the intent to get in the mix and do harm or disrupt the event. In these time, we can't afford to take those chances. So eliminate the degree risks as much as possible by creating a means for such exchanges to occur. You'll make the money back!

Injury kept me sidelined on a recent half marathon. I knew very early on in my training that I wouldn't be able to run (more than enough time for the race to reasonably make an adjustment, not last minute at all) and I would have loved to have legally transferred it to another awesome runner! However, due to prohibitive restrictions I just ended up with the most expensive swag bag ever at the end of the day :(

I want to respect race rules but I've been injured enough times to miss races and it would be great to re-sell or give away a bib if an efficient and fair way.

I agree, runners should be able to switch with a fellow runner or receive a refund or credit towards a future race. Unfortunately circumstances do prevent runners from participating.

Fully support the option of a legal way to transfer bibs. Had to miss a marathon two weeks ago because of an urgent family emergency. I'm sure there was another runner out there that would have loved the opportunity to run, legally, in my place - rather than the bib going to waste. Hoping to see this policy change with the evolving attitude and needs of runners as our sport continues to grow.

This is an absurd policy designed only to make more money off races.

The number of race participants continues to grow at all levels, which often requires runners to enter a lottery or register well in advance of race day. I think very few runners register casually - we intend to do the race, we intend to put in the training volume to ensure that we can. But the sheer length of time between registering and running for many of the races out there that we want to do allows for many things to happen that can derail our best intentions. I know the fine print often says "no transfers, no refunds, no deferrals" and I know I accept that when I sign up for a race, so it's hard for me to support "unofficial" bib transfers. On the other hand, if a solution can be found that will allow for a legal transfer of bibs up to a reasonable point pre-race without adversely impacting the race logistical overhead, it's a winning option for everybody. Race directors, please, don't penalize runners for wanting to do your race.
