The area of South Devon needs an All Weather running track. The population of Teignbridge and Torbay totals 255,000, this is 23% of the population of Devon, add in The South Hams and we total more than 33% of Devon's population and yet we have no All Weather facility for training our athletes. The closest track is Exeter which to some in our area is over 25 miles away. The basics of all sport comes from learning the fundamental skills of movement. Athletics in the form of track and field is the best way to give any up and coming athlete the grounding they need regardless as to whatever sport they go on to take part in. Given good facilities more people will be encouraged to partake in healthy activities; this can only help with the health of our nation. It is false economy to continuously develop medication to keep us going through our lives but not to give us the facility to help us from even needing that medical help in the first place. An All Weather track would not only be used by the many athletic clubs in our area but by other sports as a training facility. Colleges and schools could and would also make regular use of a track, winter and summer. The uses of such a facility are endless. Many people in authority agree that we need such a facility but they need numbers to back up their argument.
