Having taught middle school for many years I have witness the need to have middle schoolers start school later. The early morning classes were taught to very sleepy students. I wish I would have charted more closely the effectiveness in their learning of this lack of sleep.

Look at the studies. Look at St Paul schools. Be ahead instead of behind. Make a difference.

Despite so many challenges during this time, I have considered the later start time of virtual school to be such a blessing to my children. If possible, continuing that once they go back to physical school would be so wonderful for their health.

Please acknowledge natural sleep rhythms for adolescents and start later in the morning. Teenage years are hard enough.

It would be great if the school start hours are modified to a later time when we go back to the buildings as well. Our kids are well rested and ready to go in the morning with the time that they have now, especially our middle schooler.

Should do everything possible to avoid early start times, which have well-documented adverse effects on manifold aspects of students’ health and well-being. 8:30 minimum threshold as “protective,” the later the better.

Many of our students are thriving physically and emotionally with more sleep this year. Please let this continue and implement the new bell times for next year! There is no reason to wait - let's reap the benefits of more sleep for our students in 2021-2022.

We should do everything possible to enhance learning and mental health for the students in our district. We should therefore implement this later start as soon as we return to in person secondary education. Students have adapted to starting at 8:25 during distance learning and it would be disruptive and detrimental to return to early start.
I support later start times for my kid’s health
