I'm signing this petition because of my two children need to go to school and see there teachers and friends

I would have absolutely benefited from a later start time when I was in middle and high school. Between homework, sports and trying to find time for a part time job, having to be on the bus at 7 was really tough.

Kids are starting late now. No reason to push it till next year.

Start later! What have you been waiting for?

There have been studies for 20+ years showing the benefit to having the middle school and high school kids start later. It’s time to actually start putting the kids best interest first.

This is long past due.

I think this is a great thing and the kids deserve the opportunity

I support moving to the new later bell times without delay. This year of distance learning has been a great opportunity to see how a later start time has benefited our students. It makes sense to implement this for the 2020-2021 school year. Delaying it until 2021-2022 school year causes us to go back to a start time that we already know is not best practice. Why delay what is best?

Our children's health and well-being is absolutely more than worth the effort to re-work some bus routes. Implement this change now.

Please reconsider the decision to postpone a change in school start times. Respond to the research. Give Rochester kids the academic benefit of health and sleep now, not later. This is best practice. To delay such a best practice is neglect.

We know this is effective, we know this is science, start now.

I don’t understand why the district will have to draw “new” bus routes for the later start time when students are still being picked up in the same order (HS/MS followed by ES) that they have always been. Can’t they just use last year’s bus schedule 40 minutes delayed? This doesn’t seem like a good reason to keep kids sleep deprived for an extra year.

Now that the decision has been made my way to implement this excellent change? The kids have been through so many changes this year that they will easily roll with this one next fall. We live outside of town so my kids bus comes at 6 AM. The extra sleep will be in an enormous benefit to my teenagers. Thank you.

This would be a HUGE benefit to our students and their ability to learn. Under the 7:25 start time, students in my neighborhood have to wake up around 5:30 to catch a 6:35 bus. That’s an insane hour for students with after school activities and nightly homework to meet.

All the science backs this up, we need to do better by our kids. We should have made these changes year’s ago.

My kids have been doing so much better {grade-wise, health-wise, mood-wise, etc} now that they're able to sleep in until 8:20. Back when we were on the standard schedule, their bus came at 6:40, and often -- no matter how early they tried to go to sleep the night before -- they'd barely be able to get up at 6:30, throw on their clothes, brush their teeth, and run to the bus stop in pitch darkness. No breakfast, no energy, no motivation, poor grades... Teenagers absolutely need to be able to sleep later.
