As a non Greek alumni the Greek life on campus added so much to my time at RPI and some of my fondest memories involve the brothers and sisters there.

RPI should consider opening this task force up and seeking a broader view if they want real solutions. Also they need to be clear about what the problem is. This is a drastic step that will have signicant lasting effects to the Greek community.

This is another poor decision by the Administration. Banning fall rush will have a significant negative impact on the Greek system.

The RPI administration’s actions are unacceptable. This is a de facto ban on Greeks by depriving them of new members via fall rush. I will no longer donate to RPI until this is changed.

Clubs and Fraternities are what sparked for social interaction at RPI. These hamfisted moves by the administration appear to attack the core connections of most alumni to RPI. It will not end well.

Although I never joined a fraternity during my RPI years, I saw the value that Greek life contributed while there. Suspending Greek life is just another power play by the current administration.

1991. Alpha Phi Omega got me through to my degree. The student union knit a community together. A few teachers had real passion. RPI as an administration lacked the interest or ability to provide a complete education.

My fraternity gave me a support network that not only helped me graduate RPI, but has also helped me handle the challenges of transitioning into the workforce and life as an independent adult.

I quite literally would not have lived to see the end of my college career at RPI were it not for my fraternity. I know for a fact that these organizations are extremely important for the growth and wellbeing of RPI students.

According to a 2014 Gallup-Purdue Index Report, fraternity and sorority membership is linked to higher well-being for college graduates. Fraternity and sorority members are more likely than all other college graduates to be thriving in each of the five elements of well-being (purpose, physical, social, financial, and community).
Broadly targeting and scapegoating the Greek system as proposed by LeNorman Strong will not lead to better quality of life for RPI students and graduates. It only server to cover the behinds of the RPI administration. The proposed measures do nothing to help students. They are cowardly acts of an administration who is afraid of the risks associated with college life. The administration needs to remember that the students are not children to be controlled. Rather, they are young adults who deserve to be treated with respect and allowed to grow to their full potential.
Punishing all for the acts of a few is not only wrong, it sets a horrible example to the students who will become our future leaders. It is a clear sign of poor leadership within the RPI administration.
My message to the RPI administration is this: Show true leadership. Work with students to educate them on how to evaluate and mitigate risk. It will do far more than imposing draconian rules and policies to try to control them.
The motto of my fraternity is “To Better the Man” and I know that my fraternity did more to make me a better man than RPI did. And, unlike RPI, it continues to make me a better man - decades after my undergraduate years.

Greek life is an important part of RPI and represent a significant part of the alumni population. The Greek Alumni and RPI should be working together to address the identified problem areas as well as reinforce the positive contributions of the Greek System.
